Wish List Items Save Lives Every Day
The Wish List items make an immediate difference to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital in treating over 14,000 Australian native wildlife animals per year.
Tuna the Black Flying-fox came into Currumbin Wildlife Hospital with a damaged eye, was underweight and had difficulties flying. To heal his eye, the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital vet team used special laboratory equipment to spin down a blood sample to separate the serum from the blood which was then used as treatment for Tuna’s eye.
This was made possible thanks to one Wish List item: the centrifuge! Centrifuges are an integral part of Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, used all day, every day.
The vet staff explained that with the centrifuge they collect blood samples from all patients which helps the team assess the health of wildlife patients. With multiple centrifuges, the team can run multiple blood tests at once which means they can get real-time results for real-time treatment, with no backlog.
The centrifuge is also important for our Koala Chlamydia Vaccine Research Program - only through understanding the vet team can assist precious wildlife.
Purchasing Wish List items is one way to help Currumbin Wildlife Hospital continue its ground-breaking research and treat, rehabilitate, and release wildlife.
