Row for Wildlife
Whenever we call on our community, they are always there for us! Thank you to everyone who attended the Row for Life event on Thursday the 7th of July. It was a brilliant event run by Fund My Challenge that raised $10, 000 for Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
The 5am winter start didn’t deter anyone from showing up for wildlife, another sign of the strength of our community. Our Currumbin Wildlife Hospital team, affectionally known as “Team Koala”, were ready for the challenge of a 42.2km row. The event took place at the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre and the overall challenge was to raise $100, 000 for ten Gold Coast charities.
The kilometres were shared between the team that was made up of friendly locals as well as Team Captain and Koala Advocate Allan “Daxon” Dixon. Australian Actor, Erin Connor was also there and powered through the kilometres, even being interviewed by the news during her row. We are so grateful for the whole team who brought incredible energy for such a strenuous event.
The $10, 000 dollars will support our vet team to treat, rehabilitate and release wildlife. With 252 different species entering the Hospital doors, it can get very expensive. For example, it costs $400 to repair a turtle’s broken shell and an average of $7000 to save a single koala suffering from disease.
There have been more than 150, 000 admissions at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital over the last 20 years and as this figure continues to rise, we rely even more on our community to think of innovative ways to save wildlife.
If you have any event ideas or annual gatherings, you can choose Currumbin Wildlife Hospital as your charity of choice!
