Who is Chaddie?

Chaddie is a 16 year old Grey-headed Flying-fox. She was relocated to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary from Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria.

What Are Her Superpowers?

She loves her food! And we love that about her.

FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT Grey-Headed Flying-Foxes

Here are some interest facts about Grey-headed Flying-foxes:

  • They live in large colonies called camps; These camps can consist of the 4 different Flying-fox species
  • They can travel up to 50 kilometres in one evening in search of food
  • They prefer temperate climates.
  • They are one of Australia's largest bats with a wingspan of reaching over 1 meter
  • Their diet consists of mainly flowering and fruiting plants
  • They spread up to 60,000 seeds each night, playing a vital role in keeping native forests healthy
  • Due to the destruction of their natural habitat, Flying-foxes are moving into urban areas in search of food
