Name our new koala joeys!
It is a very special time of year at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Over the last few months Koala keepers have been enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of a number of new Koala joeys.
Recently 2 joeys have left their mother’s pouches and are getting to know their home.
We need your help, because both joeys’ still need names!
To celebrate NAIDOC Week (July 3-10) we’re calling on the public to help name our new joeys, with traditional Yugambeh names.
The theme this is year is colours and we have selected the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags for the public to choose from.
The options are:
DOANDOAN – BLACK
GOGIN- RED
THARAGUMM- YELLOW
NINYEIRI- BLUE
TALANGAI- WHITE
PUJARBINN- GREEN
The Winners will be announced on Wednesday 13th of July 2022.
The 2 new joeys are now out and about in their enclosures for visitors to see.

Koala keeper Sarah Eccleston says, “This is a very special time at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, not only are these little joeys adorable to look at, they play a huge role in the future of the species, which is now listed as endangered.”
Koala’s face a very serious threat to survival, due to disease, animal attacks and habitat destruction. A very successful Koala breeding and research program is one of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s 15 Conservation projects that are currently underway.
