Save Wildlife this Trauma Season
Spring is the time of year where animals are on the move! As the weather warms up and the days get longer, animals become more active and breeding season is in full swing. With this increased activity comes a spike in vehicle strike cases.
Koalas lead the way with injuries and sadly this is usually the young Koalas that are looking for a new home range. As the Koalas start crossing roads, the chance of vehicle strikes increase.
Over the last 12 months, there have been at least 1, 500 wildlife patients that are known to have been hit by cars. There are many ways to protect our wildlife on the roads:
- During dawn and dusk, be extra mindful of wildlife on the roads
- Recognise ‘Koalas Cross Here’ signs - chances are they will cross in front of your car!
- If you hit an animal, or witness someone else hit an animal, please contact Currumbin Wildlife Hospital or your closest wildlife hospital. Please call us on 07 5534 0813.
Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is on track to have over 15,000 wildlife admissions this year. Our team would like to see these numbers drop significantly.
This trauma season, please consider donating an essential piece of medical equipment from our Wish List. The Wish List items make an immediate difference to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital patients.
