Pink Underwing Moth – best dressed for Halloween!

The Pink Underwing Moth might be the coolest looking caterpillar in the world! If you can find one!

In the caterpillar stage, it looks like a regular caterpillar until disturbed, and only then does it show its alien-like 'face' to scare away potential predators.

Once it turns into a moth, its hindwings then turn into the most amazing pink or red and black print!

Where can you find the Pink Underwing Moth?

Fun facts:

  • Their wingspan can reach up to 14cm
  • It’s believed the caterpillar only eats one particular rainforest plant, the Carronia Vine.
  • The moth feeds on soft fruits from rainforest plants
  • The moth breeds in Spring and Summer
  • They are very rare and hard to find
