High School Students

Since 2009, we have successfully engaged over 400 School Based Trainees. Trainees work a paid job one day per week at the Sanctuary to learn on-the-job skills and complete theory subjects at school to gain a national qualification at Certificate 3 Level.

Our School Based Traineeship Program is open to Year 10 and Year 11 High School students. Trainees are chosen via a selection process as places are limited. Kickstart your career journey today!

We are a culturally safe space and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to apply.

What we offer

We offer School Based Traineeships in Certificate 3 in Business and Cert 3 in Tourism, which can include working in the following departments:

  • Food and Beverage outlets
  • Retail stores, Guest Services
  • Marketing and Business Administration Support services
These work skills will provide trainees with great career opportunities across multiple industries. Plus, the Cert 3 qualification is equivalent to your Year 12 QCE qualification and can qualify you for entry to certain University Courses after you finish school – so many benefits to be gained!

If you are a current high school student on the Gold Coast, more details will be available from your school Career Centre or Industry Liaison Officer.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer School Based Traineeships in any animal related roles.
