Looking for an enchanting evening role? Join our team as we welcome visitors to the magical Astra Lumina night experience at the Sanctuary. We’re seeking warm, enthusiastic people-persons to guide guests from around the world through our illuminated forest wonderland. While this role doesn’t involve animal care, you’ll be part of creating unforgettable memories under the stars.

All you need is a friendly personality, good fitness level, and a love for creating magical moments – we’ll provide the full training. Perfect for those who enjoy evening work and sharing the wonder of nature at night. You must be over 18 years old and able to commit to a 3-4 hour shift once a week.

You Can Expect to

  • Join the Astra Lumina Volunteer team and help share the magic of this spectacular, starry experience at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Assist guests at various stations along the Astra Lumina trail, ensuring a safe and inspirational journey.
  • Work independently and within a team.
  • Stand and walk throughout the shift, and ideally commit for 6 months.
  • Work outdoors in all weather, wear the volunteer uniform, and complete training.
  • Use a computer and be able to complete online training and use email.

Tasks May Include

  • Directing and welcoming guests to the Astra Lumina attraction zone.
  • Be stationed at various Astra Lumina zones throughout your shift, providing brief information to enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Assist with providing a safe and enjoyable visitor journey.

Volunteer Shifts

  • We require a minimum commitment of 1 x 3-4 hour shift one evening per week.
  • The ability to stand and walk throughout your shift is essential.
  • This is a nighttime experience with shifts beginning from late afternoon.

  • This program has a registration fee of $50 (discounted for existing Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary volunteers) to cover the cost of your volunteer shirt, name badge and hat.  After 3 months of volunteering, you’ll also receive a NTAQ TEAMS card with benefits including free entry and discounts at the Sanctuary and other Queensland National Trust properties, providing our valued volunteers with a whole host of benefits and perks.

What are the shift times?

Shift times vary depending on the volunteering role. Some roles are 3-4 hours per week; others require a commitment of 6-8 hours per week for at least 6 months. You can find  information on shift types in each role description.

What level of fitness is needed?

This depends on the role you apply for. We encourage you to read the position description carefully to understand what’s involved. Roles like Park and Wildlife Volunteers require a good level of fitness as they involve walking and standing for extended periods of time. 

How do I apply?

Once you found the role you would like to volunteer in, you can submit an application form via our website.

What is the application process?

After you apply online, your application will be screened by our volunteer recruitment team. Suitable candidates will be contacted via phone or email to further explain the role, confirm your availability and discuss the selection criteria.

If you're successful after the initial stages, we will ask you to complete three trial shifts to ensure the role is a good fit for both you and our team.

Are there any fees to volunteer?
