WORLD FROG DAY

Celebrated annually on March 20th, World Frog Day aims to raise awareness about the significance of Frog species worldwide, their crucial contribution to the ecosystem, and how we can protect them for the future.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FROGS

With over 7,000 species worldwide, Australia is home to over 240 unique Frog species, many found only in this country. While some species thrive, others face alarming declines, with four already extinct since the 1980's.

Frogs, sensitive to environmental shifts, serve as vital indicators of ecosystem health, their disappearance signals serious environmental issues. As Frogs vanish, ecosystems suffer irreversible changes, disrupting the delicate balance of life. The loss of one species ripples through ecosystems, impacting both Frogs and the various animals that rely on them for their own survival.

Win a VIP Tour of the Frog Lab

In 2020 Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary was the first organisation in the world, to successfully breed a critically endangered Kroombit tinkerfrog in managed care. Following this, in 2022 we opened the Frog Lab, a state of the art breeding facility to continue the amazing work, saving this precious Frog species from extinction.

This World Frog Day, we are encouraging everyone help save Frogs by building a 'Frog Hotel' in your backyard. This is one of the best ways to help support Frog species for the future!
