A Real Cheeky Devil

They might sound scary, but Tasmanian Devils are actually shy creatures which more commonly scavenge dead animals than kill their own prey. The Tasmanian Devil can consume an entire animal including bones, fur and scales.

They can consume more than 10% of their body weight in one meal!

Tassie Devils used to roam the mainland, however can now only be found in the wilds on of Tasmania. 90% of the Tasmanian Devil population has been wiped out by the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD).

For over 15 years, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has been part of a breeding program to help save these marsupials from extinction in the wile. As part of this vital conservation effort, the Sanctuary has successfully bred 9 Tasmanian Devils.

Fun Fact

Although the Tasmanian Devil is the size of a small dog, it has one of the most powerful bites of any mammal and can crunch through entire bones with its incredibly strong jaw!
