I'm a Ring-tailed Lemur

Lemurs are fun, curious animals that live only on the island of Madagascar. They are very social and live in big groups called 'troops', which are led by a strong female. One of the coolest things about Lemurs is their long, fluffy tails that they use to help communicate with their troop members.

They can even hold their food—like fruit, leaves, and flowers—thanks to their hands, which are a lot like human hands with thumbs and big toes for gripping branches.

Lemurs are great climbers and jumpers, making them amazing at moving through the trees. At Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, we have four Lemurs all with unique personalities. Learn more about them here.

Fun Fact

Many Lemurs have a special claw on their feet that's used for grooming themselves, kind of like a built-in comb. It's called a 'toilet claw'.

Two ring-tailed lemurs sit side by side on a wooden surface, facing backward but looking toward the camera. Their striped tails are curled around their bodies.
