Join us at Tortoise Village to meet the Radiated Tortoises

Head to The Tortoise Village to meet Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Bowser and Toad, the 5 Radiated Tortoises in their purpose built habitat. Their home is inspired by the wild landscapes of Madagascar, which is the natural home turf of these superstar shelled critters.

Taken from the wild in Madagascar, these Tortoises arrived at the Sanctuary after being rescued from poachers in Honk Kong. Unable to return to their natural home, they travelled to Australia through the efforts of the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia, to find their forever home here at The Tortoise Village.

This very long living reptile can live will over 100 years, with the oldest ever recorded reach 188 years. Hibiscus loving, slow moving and weighing up to 24kg, this group of Tortoises are here as ambassadors for their wild mates, highlighting the importance of conserving all wildlife.
