The Ghostly Hunters

Ghost Bats look like little ghosts with their pale fur and see-through wings. They use big ears and "echo hearing" (called echolocation) to find food.

Ghost Bats are the largest of Australia's Microbats and use their sharp teeth and speed as they swoop down to catch their prey. This vulnerable species roosts in caves and crevices in rock faces or Northern Australia.

They're called the 'False Vampire Bat' because people once thought they drank blood like the real Vampire Bat. But they don't! Instead, they're the only bat in Australia that eats meat - hunting insects, frogs, birds, lizards and even other bats.

Fun Fact

Ghost bats have HUGE ears - they're nearly as long as their whole head. It's like having a built-in super-powered hearing aid.
