Bilbies are shy, nocturnal creatures, native to Australia's desert regions. They spend their nights digging burrows or searching for seeds or insects to eat.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is proud to be part of the national Bilby breeding program in partnership with Save the Bilby Fund. Together, we’re working to create a vital insurance population that helps protect this iconic species from extinction in the wild. Learn more about Bilbies here.

Fun Fact

Bilbies have strong back legs. They can jump 3 meters and dig burrows to stay safe, like having a built-in trampoline.
