Which course will you be taking?

Aussie Wildlife Course

Eight weeks (July 21 to September 8) or Weekend (October 16-17)

The Aussie Wildlife Course is an introductory course developed to train enthusiastic members of our community to provide emergency care for sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife. This course is conducted as an eight-week evening course, or as a weekend condensed course.

You must be 14 years and older. Those under 18 must have parental consent.

Advanced Aussie Wildlife Course

Four weeks (starting November 4)

Following on from the Aussie Wildlife Course comes the new Advanced Course, presented by Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s veterinarians and hospital staff. Using the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital facilities, the advanced course will explore the unique anatomy and physiology of Australia’s wildlife. This course is conducted as a four-week evening course from 6pm to 8:30pm. To take part in this course, you must have completed the Aussie Wildlife course or have prior experience.

You must be 16 years and older. Those under 18 must have parental consent.

Insight into Vet Nursing

Eight weeks (starting October 6)

Ever wanted to know what it is like to walk in the shoes of a vet nurse? Maybe you are considering a career change, looking to become a vet nurse, or are interested in the operations of a veterinary hospital. This course is presented by qualified vet nurses and provides an insight into the role of a vet nurse, and their importance in caring for animals. This course is conducted as an eight-week evening course.

You must be 14 years and older. Those under 18 must have parental consent.

Reptile and Amphibian Captive Management

Weekend course (September 11 – 12)

Designed for those with a keen interest in seeking knowledge and understanding of Reptiles and Amphibian Identification, you will learn about legislation and relevant government bodies, basic taxonomy, captive-husbandry needs and maintenance, health, nutrition and reproduction of reptiles. You’ll also receive a Study Guide and certification upon completion of the course.

You must be 14 years and older. Those under 18 must have parental consent.

Understanding Bats of Australia

Single day (September 18)

Bats are misunderstood animals who play a vital role for our environment. Spend a day learning about these incredible creatures; uncover why they are considered a keystone species and why their existence is vital for the health of our ecosystems. To finish the day, immerse yourself in their natural habitat as we venture out during twilight to witness the awakening of the only mammal that can sustain flight.

Weekend course (July 24 – 25)

Would you like to communicate with your furry, feathered or scaly companion? Join us and discover how we train our animal ambassadors on a daily basis. From enrichment to medical care, we will provide you with the information and training demonstrations to effectively train almost any animal!

Understanding Our Local Mammals in Care

Weekend course (August 21 – 22)

This weekend mammal course will dive into the many aspects of our local mammal species. Expert keepers and specialists will go into depth on identification, husbandry, rescue, first aid and rehabilitation as well as management of illness and disease. This course aims to expand your knowledge on our most well-known and loved locals.

You must be 14 years and older. Those under 18 must have parental consent.
