Things To Do Gold Coast

FAQs

The Gold Coast has plenty of things to do for free for locals and visitors alike. While the beach is an obvious answer, there are also plenty of walks, wildlife spotting and art opportunities, including:

โ€‹Swim at the beach – Surfers Paradise is great for a central day at the beach, while Burleigh Heads is laid-back and areas like Currumbin are generally much quieter and more relaxing.

  • Walk through Burleigh National Park – The Oceanview Track through Burleigh National Park offers some stunning coastal views and rainforest sections, and at the right time of year, is a prime spot for whale watching.
  • Currumbin Rock Pools – the rock pools are a fantastic natural swimming spot to cool off but can be busy in warmer months.
  • Visit Best of All Lookout – Head up to Springbrook National Park and take in the panoramic views. On clear days you can see all the way to northern NSW.
  • Walk around HOTA – HOTA, or Home of the Arts, is one of the largest public galleries outside a capital city in Australia. HOTA has a range of exhibitions, as well as wonderful walking tracks, parklands, and public art installations.
  • Discover Natural Bridge – A drive through Numinbah will bring you to Natural Bridge, one of Queenslandโ€™s most impressive natural formations, featuring a waterfall flowing through a rock arch and is home to a magical world of glow worms.
  • Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area – just 10km from the centre of the Gold Coast is more than 1200 hectares of wetland, eucalypt forest, salt marshes and mangroves. Internationally recognised, it is a great local to spot a range of wildlife including wallabies, koalas, owls and migratory birds. The park is home to 274 animal species.

There are plenty of great family-friendly activities on the Gold Coast for a range of ages. Attractions that consistently rank as top family favourites include:

  • Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Sea World
  • Tallebudgera Creek
  • GC Aqua Park
  • Broadwater Parklands
  • Curtis Falls
  • Natural Bridge

Yes, for most families, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is absolutely worth a visit, particularly if you want the opportunity to see animals you wouldnโ€™t normally get to see in the wild, as well as getting up close! It offers a slower-paced day compared to the theme parks while still being engaging for children of all ages. The free bird feeding is a great way to start or finish the day, while the miniature train can get you around the park easily. With playgrounds, shaded areas and plenty of places to stop for a break, Currumbin Wildlife is certainly worth the day trip.

The Gold Coast is famous for being one of Australiaโ€™s premier holiday destinations. With a combination of world-class beaches, theme parks, adventure, nightlife and rainforest hinterland, itโ€™s a great place to visit. With over 50km of coastline offering great surf and swim spots, the Gold Coast enjoys around 300 sunny days a year, making it a great outdoor holiday destination.

The Gold Coast is a city where you can spend a few days or a few weeks. For families, 5- 7 days tend to offer the best balance of enjoying the major attractions without rushing, while 3-4 days will give you a good taste of the Coast if you want to skip the theme parks. For those with a bit more time, 2 weeks will give you plenty of opportunity to explore what the city has to offer, the hinterland areas and even head to Brisbane for a day.
