Cassowary Conservation
The Southern Cassowary is Australia's heaviest flightless bird. Found in the Tropics of North Queensland it is listed as endangered. Major threats include the loss and fragmentation of available habitat, attacks by dogs, vehicle strikes, disease and natural catastrophic weather events.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary have Cassowaries on display and we are endeavouring to have breeding success into the future.
Behind Ostriches, the Cassowary is the second-heaviest bird on the planet.
