Accessibility

Is Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary accessible?

We aim to ensure that every guest has a memorable experience and has the ability to see our wonderful flora and fauna as well as our wildlife shows, presentations and education programs. We are committed to providing suitable access for our guests, whatever their individual needs may be.

Is Astra Lumina accessible?

Due to inclines across the trail, Astra Lumina is not recommended for people using a wheelchair. Please also note this experience includes lighting effects, some of which flicker or strobe. There are also fog effects at several of the zones.

Conservation

What do you do to protect and conserve wildlife?

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is involved in many conservation projects. From bringing back tiny Frogs from the brink of extinction to protecting some more well-known Australian Mammals and Birds - our conservation teams are incredible at what they do and will do everything they can do save endangered species for future generations to enjoy.

General

What are Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's opening hours?

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is open from 9am to 4pm every day, except ANZAC Day (April 25) and Christmas Day (December 25). Last admissions at 3.30pm daily.

Astra Lumina is open from Wednesday to Saturday with the first sessions starting after dark, which depends on the season.

The Lorikeet feeding is held daily at 8am and 4pm.

Do I need a ticket to feed the Lorikeets?

No, you don't need a ticket for the Lorikeet feeding. It's free to attend and held twice daily at 8am and 4pm just outside the main entrance to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. You can get a feeding tray and feed the wild Lorikeets for a gold coin donation.

Will Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary stay open in bad weather?

The Sanctuary will remain open in light rain. In case of severe weather events, a decision may be made to close the Sanctuary in the interest of guest, animal and staff safety. Our team closely monitors weather and you will be informed if you have purchased a ticket and we have to close due to unsafe weather.

Some activities and/or presentations may be delayed or cancelled in wet weather.

Can I bring an umbrella to the Sanctuary?

Yes, you can bring an umbrella.

Groups & Education

Can I make a group booking?

Group bookings can be made for groups of 20 or more people. The booking must be made in advance and prepaid at least 5 business days before your group’s visit date. For more information, click here.

Can I book a school excursion?

Yes! You can book in a group of students for an excursion at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Please see here for more details.

Do you offer school holiday programs?

We sure do. Every school holiday, we offer programs for kids and teens. They are a great way to keep your kids entertained during the holidays, and have them connect in nature while learning new skills. Bookings are required. Find out more here.

Memberships

What are Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's opening hours?

Yes, there is a large car park opposite the main entrance on Tomewin Street, Currumbin. The car park is open from 7.30am - 5.30pm daily. 

Parking is $10 per car for all-day parking. Parking is free for National Trust of Australia (Queensland) members. 

Are there any other places I can explore with my membership?

Plenty! As a member, you get free and discounted access to thousands of National Trust sites across Australia and the world. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is just one of them. There are many more to explore – including National Trust places in Queensland, Australian heritage sites and international heritage sites.

How long is my membership valid for?

Our memberships are valid for 12 months.

Are there discounts for family memberships?

Yes, we offer a family discount.

What member discounts do I get at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?

As a member, you can enjoy 15% off all animal encounters (where there isn’t already special member discount), school holiday programs, food, drinks, retail, and photography. You also get free parking, exclusive pre-sale access to events and additional limited time special offers.

Should I pre-book encounters and experiences?

Yes, we recommend pre-booking an encounter or experience prior to your visit as spaces are limited. You can browse and book them here.

I loved my visit. Can I upgrade to an Annual Membership?

Absolutely! If you loved your visit and you’d like to come back over and over again, you can upgrade to an annual membership on the day of your visit. Just head to the Guest Services booth (near the Lorikeet Arena) on the day of your visit, show your day ticket and you’ll only pay the difference.

An annual membership costs less than 2x visits, so if you plan to come back, we definitely recommend becoming a member. You will also get discounts on animal encounters, experiences and events. Plus, free parking, and free entry to all other National Trust (Queensland) properties and over 1,000 more special places worldwide.

How soon can I use my membership?

Immediately. Just show your email receipt until you receive your membership card in the post.

Services & Facilities

Can I bring my own food and drink?

There are plenty of food and beverage options available to purchase at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary; however, guests can bring in their own bottled water, snacks and picnic food. NO alcohol and NO glass bottles.

Can I celebrate my birthday at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?

Of course, but please do not bring in any balloons, confetti or large decorations.

Can I hire a wheelchair, pram or buggy?

Guests will be able to hire prams and wheelchairs for a small fee. Head to the Visitor Services booth near the Lorikeet Arena upon your arrival and the team will be able to help. We don’t have buggies for hire, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own.

Can I store my luggage while I visit?

Yes, you can store your luggage for a small fee. Please see the friendly team at Nature’s Gift Store right next to our Main Entrance to arrange this.

Are there parent rooms available?

Yes, there are parent rooms and baby change facilities throughout the Sanctuary. Please check the park map for their locations.

Do you have a lost & found property?

If you lost something or found an item that you would like to hand in, please visit the friendly staff at Nature’s Gift Store (map ref. G17). Alternatively, if you’ve lost something and you’re no longer at the Sanctuary, please reach out to our Visitor Services team. We recommend including a description of the item you lost, the day you visited and the area you think you may have lost it in. That will help us try and find your lost item quicker.

Can I smoke or vape at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?

There is a strict no-smoking policy inside Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. All smoking and vaping inside the Sanctuary is strictly prohibited. There is a dedicated smoking area located outside our Main Entrance, right next to Nature’s Gift Store.

Can I bring my own camera?

Yes, cameras and mobile phone cameras are welcome. Please note that any photographs, videos or sound recordings taken by you must be for personal use only. Any use, reuse, or production for commercial purposes without our express written consent is strictly prohibited.

I got a professional photo taken as part of an encounter. Where do I collect it?

You can collect your professional photos on your way out at Nature’s Gift Store (map ref. G17).

Do you have any shows or entertainment?

Absolutely! We have many different conservation shows, presentations and keeper talks that run daily. They are all free and included in your entry ticket. Check out all shows and times here.

I want to meet animals up close. Do you offer animal encounters?

Yes, we do! We have many encounters and experiences you can choose from, where you can get up close and personal with an animal. You can meet native animals and Australian icons like the Koala, or you can meet with some of our more exotic ambassadors like the Capybara. See all encounters & experiences here.

These encounters are your best chance to get up super close with your favourite animal and learn more about them from our expert keepers. It’s a special experience you will never forget!

Do I need to pre-book for shows, presentations and keeper talks?

No bookings required! All conservation shows, presentations and keeper talks are included in your entry ticket. View all times here.

Do I need to book the TreeTop Challenge?

Yes, bookings are required to complete the TreeTop Challenge. You can either just do the TreeTop challenge, which you can book via their website, or if you’d like to make it a whole day out, we recommend getting an Experience Pass. This gives you all-day entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and lets you complete the TreeTop challenge. See Experience Passes here.

Where do I check in for TreeTop Challenge?

Proceed through Main Entrance and head towards Kangaroo Outpost (map ref. S14). Our friendly staff will be able to direct you.

Tickets

Do I need to pre-book?

No, you can buy tickets at the Main Entrance; however, we recommend buying tickets online before you arrive, especially for encounters and experiences. You can buy entry tickets here.

What’s included in the entry ticket?

You get all-day entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, including access to free daily shows, presentations and conservation keeper talks. You’ll also get to enjoy unlimited train rides on our miniature trains, they’re a big hit especially with kids!

What if I need to change my booking?

Don’t worry if your plans have changed. You can manage your booking via the Manage Booking link in your confirmation email. You will be able to change your booking, such as choosing a different date to visit.

If you need help to change your booking, please email our friendly Visitor Services team visitorservices@cws.org.au and they’ll be happy to help.

How do I redeem my prepaid ticket?

You will receive a confirmation email with a QR code of your tickets after your purchase. Simply show the QR code at the Main Entrance when you arrive.

Do I need to print out my ticket?

There is no need to print your ticket, better to save that paper! Simply show the QR code in your confirmation email on your phone at the Main Entrance.

Who is eligible for a concession discount?

We have concession tickets available for pensioners, seniors & senior business, veterans and students. Please show your valid card when you arrive.

Are discounted tickets available for carers?

Discounted admission rates are available for purchase at the ticket booths on the day of visit upon the presentation of a State or Commonwealth-issued Disability Pension Card. Please advise the team member at the booth when purchasing admission tickets to receive the discounted rates. Guests who are accompanying Disability Pension Card holders in the capacity of a Companion or Carer receive free entry to the Sanctuary.

How do I get to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary by public transport?

Public transport is a great way to get to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and it’s also great for the environment! Translink bus services stop directly out the front. Visit the Translink Journey Planner to plan your journey.

Can I bring my own pram, wheelchair, scooter, bike or skateboard inside Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?

You can bring your pram or wheelchair. Scooters, bikes or skateboards are not allowed inside the Sanctuary.

Volunteering

What are the shift times?

Shift times vary depending on the volunteering role. Some roles are 3-4 hours per week; others require a commitment of 6-8 hours per week for at least 6 months. You can find  information on shift types in each role description.

What level of fitness is needed?

This depends on the role you apply for. We encourage you to read the position description carefully to understand what’s involved. Roles like Park and Wildlife Volunteers require a good level of fitness as they involve walking and standing for extended periods of time. 

How do I apply?

Once you found the role you would like to volunteer in, you can submit an application form via our website.

What is the application process?

After you apply online, your application will be screened by our volunteer recruitment team. Suitable candidates will be contacted via phone or email to further explain the role, confirm your availability and discuss the selection criteria.

If you're successful after the initial stages, we will ask you to complete three trial shifts to ensure the role is a good fit for both you and our team.

Are there any fees to volunteer?

There is a registration fee for successful volunteers, which will cover everything you'll need to get started, including your volunteer uniform and name badge. After 3 months of volunteering, you’ll also receive a NTAQ TEAMS card with benefits including free entry and discounts at the Sanctuary and other Queensland National Trust properties, providing our valued volunteers with a whole host of benefits and perks.
