I'm a Tree Kangaroo

Tree Kangaroos are super cool animals that live in the rainforests of northern Australia, New Guinea and nearby islands. Unlike regular Kangaroos that hop on the ground, Tree Kangaroos are built for life up in the trees.

They have strong arms, legs and long tails that help them balance as they climb and jump from tree to tree.

These tree-loving Kangaroos are herbivores, which means they love eating leaves, fruits, flowers and sometimes even tree bark. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to both a Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo and a Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo.

Fun Fact

Rather than hopping around, they can jump from tree to tree, and some jumps are as far as 9 meters (that's longer than a school bus)!

A tree kangaroo with reddish-brown fur and lighter underparts stands on a wooden surface next to a branch, with greenery in the background.
